How Do I Safely Lower My AC Unit When Tearing Down My Deck?

I'm planning to tear down my old deck, which is in pretty bad shape, and I want to know how to lower my air conditioning unit that's mounted on a concrete pad atop the deck. Should I hire a professional for this job, or can I safely do it myself?

As an HVAC tech, I can say you probably don’t have enough slack in your refrigerant lines to move it by much. You’ll need a professional to pump down the refrigerant, cut the lines, and then they can extend them to your new setup. This will help avoid any issues with contamination in the lines. Definitely get a licensed pro for this job!

Super helpful advice! Thanks for clearing that up.

You could try supporting it with blocks or a sling if you really want to keep it where it is, but honestly, moving it is a whole task. Make sure you check if there’s enough slack in the lines before you decide to do anything. You don’t want to end up needing to extend those lines!

That could work, but it’s risky without the right setup.

Definitely call in a pro! They'll need to drain the refrigerant lines safely before moving the AC unit. It might not be as heavy as you think, but getting it moved correctly is super important for your system's health. Trust me, it's best left to the experts!

Totally agree! You don’t want to risk damaging anything.
