What’s the Deal with All Those Milwaukee Angle Grinder Models?

I'm interested in buying a 5-inch angle grinder, but I'm surprised to see that Milwaukee offers a ton of different models, over a dozen! With prices ranging from around $170 for the cheapest brushless model to over $300 for the high-end ones, I'm wondering if it's worth spending more for better features. Could anyone break down the differences between these models and share advice on which one to go for?

I used to swear by the corded Milwaukee Magnum 6154-20. It's a beast! Now, there are variable speed M18 Fuel models that are impressive, offering paddle and slide switch options. Also, check out the low-profile head option for tight spaces, though it lacks variable speed.

If you're looking for a solid choice, definitely go for the Fuel model. They usually drop to around $100 if you catch a sale. It's a good investment for reliable performance without breaking the bank.

When it comes to features, it’s pretty much Fuel vs. Non-Fuel. The Fuel versions are superior, but you also have to choose between paddle switches and slide switches based on your preference. Plus, some come with One-Key compatibility which connects to your phone. These factors can really narrow down your options.

Honestly, I found the brushless model, like the 2686, to be a bit lacking in power compared to the brushed version 2680. If you have light tasks, it might work for you, but some of the more powerful corded models outshine it unless you're using a heavy-duty battery. The variety in models really comes down to different features like variable speed, paddle vs. slide switches, and some models that might offer specs you can't find in stock versions. Just be aware that the Fuel model 2880 is still a solid choice but does need a hefty battery to perform well.

If you're looking for a powerful setup, I found a deal where you can get the 2880 for about $378, which includes two batteries and a charger. Definitely worth it if you need more power and extra batteries!
