I'm working on a vegetable garden that measures 8x4 feet and is sunk into a slope, with about 8 inches above ground on one side and around 3 feet on the other. I'm looking for suggestions on how to build a fence to keep out deer, rabbits, and groundhogs. I've never built a fence before, so I'd really appreciate a straightforward explanation! What kind of posts should I use? Should I go for chicken wire or hardware cloth? How should I bury the perimeter? And how do I add a roof to keep birds out? Thanks!

I had a similar garden setup! I used 8-foot T-posts at each corner and wrapped deer netting all around my garden. The netting would catch on the posts, and I secured it with tomato clips for easy access when I needed to tend to the garden. The rabbits stayed away, and the deer couldn't get in. If you're worried about groundhogs digging, you might want to pin down some hardware cloth around the edges to stop any tunneling.
Honestly, if you're looking for a simpler solution, consider using a repellent like Bobbex. Building a complete enclosure can be a lot of work and might not be necessary. Or hey, maybe just go for a greenhouse kit—they take a lot of hassle outta managing pest problems!
For your garden dimensions, sounds like you can easily keep it secure! Using rabbit wire with metal T-posts at the corners seems like a solid choice. It’s relatively easy to set up. Just make sure the wire goes a bit underground to prevent rabbits from burrowing in.
