How to Prevent Rust on My Lie Nielsen Shoulder Plane?

I'm having a real issue with my Lie Nielsen shoulder plane rusting quite a bit. I really like using it, but it seems to rust every time I use it. I've tried a plane sock, wax, and even stored it with desiccants, but nothing seems to help. If I don't wipe it down and reapply wax after every use, I find corrosion on it by morning. To be honest, I've never dealt with rust like this on any other tool I own. I'm even thinking about getting it nickel plated to stop the rust. By the way, I don't live in a humid area, so I'm a bit baffled by this problem.

Have you tried using some oil? A product like 3-in-1 oil should work great for this. Also, make sure there’s no dust on it before it goes back in storage, since that can lead to rust too.

I’ve avoided oils because I’m worried about wood contamination. Plus, do I really have to reapply it after every session?
