I'm looking to move the AC registers in my house from the walls to the ceilings. Is this feasible? If it is possible, can I do this as a DIY project or should I hire an AC company or electrician for the job? The registers are pretty unsightly where they are now, and their position isn't ideal either.

Yes, you can definitely move the registers, but it's not a straightforward task. Relocating ductwork can be tricky and may end up being costly. If you're in the midst of a home remodel, it might be one of those things that you factor into the overall project budget, though it might not happen if it's too expensive. Just wanted to let you know it’s doable—if you’re thinking about it, definitely consider consulting a pro.
Moving them is definitely possible, but there's a lot to consider, like the space above your ceilings and how high up the registers are. If you're comfortable doing some DIY work like drywall cutting and patching, you might pull it off. Just be aware that moving them could potentially lower efficiency. But hey, aesthetic improvements can sometimes be worth that trade-off!
The ease of the move really depends on whether your ducts come down from the attic or up from the basement. If they're coming down from above, you might find it quite simple, but you'll need some special tools like sheet metal shears. On the other hand, if they come up from below, it could be serious work, requiring duct extensions. I'd suggest having an HVAC tech check it out to ensure everything’s balanced, especially if you're already looking into other nice vent designs on the market. You might find that a cool new vent cover could do the trick without needing a full move!
That’s great advice! I had no clue there were different vent options available. I’ll definitely check them out!

Yep, I’ve got an unfinished attic space and my registers are close to the top of the wall, so I get that discomfort with efficiency. I’d also be nervous about cutting into something I’m not 100% sure about!
