I've got some gable vents in my unfinished attic, which has blown-in insulation, and I noticed there are wooden boards nailed a few inches away from the vents, almost blocking them. I'm curious why someone would install these boards so close to the vents. Should I be concerned about them? Also, are they easy to remove if necessary?

It sounds like the boards are blocking your gable vents. They might have been put there by a previous homeowner trying to stop pests from getting in through broken mesh. Alternatively, they could be messing with your venting system. If they are just blocking air flow, you might want to consider removing them, especially if you're not planning to install an attic fan.

Thanks for the info! I do think they were there to block pests since I found that the mesh was intact. I'll keep an eye on it!
