I'm starting a small vegetable garden and I'm planning to fill a planter. I wanted to know if using black mulch would cause any problems for my plants.

Honestly, straw is a fantastic and cheap alternative! It's great for your garden and super easy to source.

Nice, I'm actually picking up some bales today. Didn't even think about using straw!

It's best to avoid black mulch since it can have dyes that might not be great for veggies. Stick to natural options when you're gardening!

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to double-check. Thanks for the heads-up!

What you really want is a mix. Use compost or manure with some topsoil, and then add in a bit of mulch for drainage. Organic materials work wonders, especially for veggies!

Absolutely, I'm considering composting too. Just trying to use what I have to save some bucks!

Unless you've grabbed some cheap stuff from a dollar store that might have sketchy dyes, you should be fine. Black mulch is generally just carbon. Just make sure what you're using is high quality!

Got it! Mine's from Lowes and seems pretty standard.
