Tips for Growing Sweet Potatoes in Pots

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about growing sweet potatoes in pots this time around. Back home, we used to grow them straight in the ground with no issues, but this will be my first attempt in containers. I've checked out some YouTube tutorials, and I have a rough idea of what I need. However, I'm still unsure about what to add to the soil for the best results. I've heard that slow-release fertilizer is recommended, but I'd love to get some input from those who've successfully grown sweet potatoes in pots. Any advice would be super helpful!

I've read that slow-release fertilizers aren't great for potted fruits, but if you get one that’s made for root crops, you might be in luck. When I plant my seedlings, I usually start them in Fox Farm Happy Frog and then transplant them into Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Just a heads up, potatoes can be tricky to transplant. I recommend using Happy Frog soil initially and then adding nutrients after a month at a quarter strength. Good luck with your sweet potatoes!

Thanks for your insights! I’ve seen mixed advice on the fertilizer, so I appreciate the clarification.
