Can One Person Successfully Plant 6′ Green Giants Alone?

I've been working on clearing out 30 years of overgrowth on my property, and I'm ready to start planting! I'd like to line the boundary facing a busy street with about 8-10 Green Giants. I'm considering doing the planting myself to save some money, but I'm unsure how tough it will be since I've never dealt with anything this large before. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you can get them in 10 or 15-gallon pots, go for it! I've received 10-gallon Green Giants that were about 5-6 feet tall, and I found them way easier to handle compared to those balled and burlapped ones. The potted plants usually have a better root system too!

You might be able to manage it if you buy them in #7 pots or smaller. But if you're thinking about getting 6' balled and burlapped Green Giants, they can weigh around 300 pounds! Lifting one of those solo would be pretty tricky and could lead to damage, so keep that in mind.

I’m a woman in my 50s and have planted 5-foot junipers and Japanese maples by myself. I wouldn't attempt to plant 8 in a single day, though. I’d say doing 2-3 each day is more realistic. Just make sure you have a sawzall handy; it's super helpful for cutting through any roots while digging the holes!

That's solid advice! I used a similar approach for my landscaping and it made things much smoother.
