I've been having a really frustrating time with dehumidifiers. My trusty Friedrich lasted for years, but was recalled due to a fire hazard. Since then, I've gone through five different dehumidifiers in just four years, and I only use them from about April to November! My Midea Cube lasted a year before icing up, and the replacement did the same. I then got an Ivation that worked well until I stored it away for winter. When I took it out, it would run but only blow cold air without dehumidifying. I reached out to the company and received an inferior replacement. I bought a GE model later on, but the pump broke after six months, and they wouldn't honor the warranty. Now, I'm trying to get the Ivation working again, but it's having the same issue. Is there a reason these dehumidifiers keep failing over the winter? Can anyone recommend a brand that actually lasts?

You might want to consider a commercial unit like Alorair. They might be pricier upfront, but I've had mine for years without issues, while the cheap ones from big box stores just fall apart.
I always go for dehumidifiers from Costco. I've had five in the last six years, but thanks to their return policy, I only paid for the first one. I also leave mine on through the winter, but it doesn't run too much during the colder months.
I’ve noticed that leaving mine running all year helps. It's sad how short-lived they are nowadays; my first one lasted five years but now new ones barely hit a year. It’s frustrating!

I agree! Investing in something more durable is totally worth it in the long run.
