Best Tools for DIY Home Design on a Budget?

Asked By CreativeNinja42 On

My wife and I just bought a new apartment in Dallas and, since we're new to all this, I'm looking for some tools or apps that can help us manage our home design without breaking the bank. We can't afford to hire an architect, so I need suggestions on what's beginner-friendly. So far, I have some ideas to plan out the walls and rooms, make a list of tasks, and estimate costs. But I'm really uncertain about what other resources might be useful. Any tips?

You might want to check out Remodel.ai—it’s pretty handy for generating ideas, though it’s not perfect. It helps in visualizing spaces which can spark some creative thoughts for your layout. But just keep in mind, it’s best as an idea starter rather than a blueprint.

That sounds great! I’d definitely start with getting a general layout first, and then work on figuring out costs for everything you need.

If you're just looking to make simple changes like color updates or finishes, you might not need an architect at all. An interior designer could handle that for a fraction of the cost. You’ll definitely want architectural help if you're thinking about major renovations like kitchens or baths, though.

Yeah, but I totally get you—hiring someone just to tell you where to put the cables and lights seems excessive!
