Should I Be Concerned About This Gap Between My Wall and Floor?

I've noticed that there's a gap between the wall and floor that seems to be widening—almost like the floor has dropped by a quarter inch. Some areas in my house have smaller gaps than this. After completing a full basement renovation, we decided to bring in a structural engineer when we saw the gap getting larger. He assured us that the house is structurally fine, but now I'm starting to see cracks in the drywall at corners and in various spots throughout the house. Is this something to worry about? Is it common for this to happen? I can't post a picture here, but I'll try to share a link in the comments if it helps.

It sounds like you might be experiencing some settling issues from the basement work. Did the renovation involve removing or relocating any main supports? Even temporary changes can cause some shifts in the house. If you have any photos of the beams or posts from the renovation, that might help others give better advice. Just keep an eye on those gaps and cracks, even if the engineer says it's safe.

Yeah, gaps like that can happen when parts of the house shift or settle. The important thing is to figure out what's causing it—often it can be a minor issue, but it could also indicate something more serious. Have you thought about getting a second opinion or maybe just monitoring the gaps for a bit? Photos of the area might also help other people diagnose the situation better.
