Best Way to Power EL Wire for a Sculpture Installation?

Asked By ArtisticNinja42 On

I'm looking for some advice on powering about eight 12-foot lengths of EL wire for a sculpture installation that will be displayed in a gallery for a week during open hours. I'd prefer to connect it to wall power instead of using batteries to avoid any issues with them running out, especially since the installation will be hung on a high ceiling. I think I need two 12v EL inverters rated for 50 feet each, along with some 1-to-4 splitters. Is that the right approach, or am I misunderstanding how this works?

Keep in mind that LED tubes are now often a better option than EL wire. They're brighter, consume less power, are easier to use, and generally last longer. You might want to check out these LED products which can be found in longer lengths and joined together easily. Here's a link for your reference: adafruit.com/product/5731. Definitely worth considering if you're looking for efficiency!

I checked out those but couldn't find them longer than 300mm. If you have any suggestions on where to find longer ones, that would be awesome!
