Help! My Hydrangea Paniculata ‘Vanille Fraise’ Looks Dead – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I'm new here and I'm looking for some gardening advice. I'm located in the UK, and we've had some lovely sunny weather. However, my Hydrangea Paniculata 'Vanille Fraise' that I planted last year, which was thriving, now has no greenery at all—just brown twigs. I thought maybe snails were munching on it, so I moved it to a pot to see if it would revive. Is it dead, or is this something I should expect this time of year? I also have a regular and oak leaf hydrangea, and both of those are doing great with lots of new leaves.

You can test if your hydrangea is still alive by scraping a bit of the bark with your fingernail. If you see green underneath, it’s still kicking! If it’s brown all the way through, unfortunately, it might be a goner. If it’s alive, just give it some time to wake up from dormancy!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll give that a try! Do you know if they grow from old or new branches? I just cut off the old flowers recently and noticed it looked green beneath, so I’m hopeful!
