Do Grow Lights Really Work for Indoor Plants?

Asked By PlantLover42 On

I'm considering switching to grow lights to help my indoor plants thrive, but I'm concerned about the cost and whether they're effective. My friend with an ag degree thinks it's not worth it due to the expense. Can anyone share their experiences with grow lights? Are there specific brands that offer good results without breaking the bank?

Yes, grow lights can absolutely work for indoor plants! In fact, about 90% of my plant collection thrives under grow lights alone. Just make sure they're placed close to the plants and keep them on for about 12 hours a day. A timer can help with the scheduling. I've had great success with brands like HLG and even some cheaper options like Sansi. Just avoid the really low-quality stuff from places like Amazon.

That's good to know! I was worried about the cost of the good brands.

Definitely, the right lights can make a big difference!

Absolutely they work, and the brand makes a huge difference. I have a mix of Sansi lights and some cheaper alternatives. My plants are mostly doing well, but I had a rough time with leggy growth under the cheap ones. It's best to invest a bit in quality lights—especially if you're depending on them for the bulk of your plant care.

Good to know! I’ll steer clear of the cheap ones then.

Sansi is great, but don't forget that positioning and type of light also matter!

You can grow plants using affordable grow lights! I've been using Barrina lights from Amazon, and they're pretty effective. My electric bill only increased by about $10, which isn't bad considering my plants are thriving now. Just make sure to do a bit of research on the brand to avoid the cheaper, scammy options.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look for those Barrina lights.

Do you think they’d work well for flowering plants?
