How Can I Safely Set Up My Patio Door for Automatic Closing?

Asked By DoggoDoorDude42 On

I'm trying to set up my patio door so it will automatically close when my dogs come in or go out. I know there are spring-loaded hinges available, but I'm having a hard time finding one that also includes a stop feature to prevent the door from swinging too far open. My TV is located right next to this door, and if it opens past 90 degrees, it hits the screen. I'd appreciate any suggestions for hinges or other solutions!

You might want to check out this hinge pin door stop I found. It can be attached to your existing hinge and keeps the door from swinging too far. Here’s the link: [Everbilt Satin Nickel Hinge Pin Door Stop](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Satin-Nickel-Hinge-Pin-Door-Stop-28427/314151609). Just a heads up, if you have auto-close hinges, you might only want to install these on the top and bottom hinges, since the middle one is better left without the stop.

Quick question for you: does your door open into your home or out? I assumed it opens out, but the way you mentioned it might hit the TV has me wondering a bit!
