Can You Use Rockwool for Blown-In Sound Insulation?

I'm considering using rockwool for blown-in sound insulation in a wall where replacing the plasterboard isn't an option. Is it feasible to break up rockwool batts for this purpose, or would it be better to just go with cellulose insulation instead?

Breaking up rockwool batts isn't a great idea because it can mess with their insulating and sound-dampening abilities. Rockwool is way denser than fiberglass, giving it superior soundproofing. If you're looking for blown-in options, check for products like Owens Corning InsulFill or Rockwool granulate, but you might need to special order them since they're not always stocked.
