Best Practices for Buying M18 Batteries: Avoiding Fakes and Finding Deals

I'm looking to replace my M18 batteries as I have one from 2019 and another from 2021. I use them for my line trimmer and leaf blower, primarily during my weekly sessions on my 2-acre property in the summer. One battery is an XC 8.0 and the other is a 9.0. I've heard that I should steer clear of the M18 HD 8.0 and 12.0 models. What would you recommend as the best option for my needs? Also, any tips on where to buy them? Should I avoid Amazon? Is Home Depot my best bet? Thanks for any advice!

From my experience, the XC 8.0 battery is fantastic. I've got five of them! The 12.0 can get heavy, and I’ve had a 9.0 that failed, so I'd recommend sticking with the 8.0. It just gives you the best balance of power and weight for lighter jobs around the house like trimming and blowing leaves.

Consider going with FORGE batteries. They seem to last longer and don't have the same issues as the HD models. Plus, they give you way more charge cycles, which is a big deal if you’re using them frequently.

Yeah, I've switched to FORGE too and I've been really happy with the performance. They just seem more reliable overall.

If you're just buying batteries on their own, check out waysource.com for consistently good prices. There are times when you can find better deals from other retailers, especially if you're willing to take advantage of Home Depot's return policy. Overall, waysource has been my go-to place for M18 batteries at discounted rates.

I totally agree! I found a great deal there last month. Just keep an eye out for sales!
