I'm setting up an outdoor sink and need some guidance on the drainage options. I'm debating whether to connect it to my home's sewage system or just let it leech into the ground. If I go with the sewage tie-in, I assume I'll need a vent—can I use one of those under-sink vents? Also, are clean-outs necessary at any point? On the other hand, leeching it could be simpler and would benefit my trees, though I'm worried I might miss something important. I live in a desert with dry clay soil and plan to direct the leech line away from structures, near some large trees. I'm thinking of setting up a 5-gallon bucket with rocks as a grease trap, leading into a 25-50 gallon rock bed for leeching. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend going with leeching. Honestly, how much grease are you really generating? If it’s just some water from washing hands or light food prep, the grease trap is probably overkill and might attract unwanted bugs and animals.
Exactly, it sounds like a good plan. Just keep it simple!
Definitely avoid pouring any grease down drains, even gray ones. I used to be a pipe wrangler, and I've seen what grease can do to plumbing!
Totally agree! I'm hoping to just keep it to gray water, but that trap is more of a backup plan.
For just an outdoor sink, why not just run the drainage pipe to a flower bed? Keep it simple, right? KISS—Keep It Simple, Stupid!
Haha, thanks! That’s exactly what I wanted to hear. I think I was just overthinking the whole setup.

Thanks! Ideally, there shouldn't be much grease, but the trap is just me being cautious.
