How Can I Keep My Neighbor’s Cat Out of My Garden?

My neighbor's cat has been using my garden as its personal bathroom every night, and it's starting to worry me since I've just planted some flowers, specifically dahlias. I'm concerned that once they start to grow, the cats will ruin them. Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep the cat away from my garden?

I've tried a bunch of different ways to deter cats, but I've found that the simplest solution is the most effective—just toss some twig trimmings around on the ground between your plants. I use branches from my raspberry and blackberry plants, and they seem to do the trick. It adds a little extra decor to the garden too!

Cats really love digging in bare soil, so one idea is to plant some ground cover plants in between your dahlias. Also, using twigs or even upturned hanging baskets can protect new plants until they establish themselves. Just make sure there's no bare soil left for the cats!

Absolutely! Keeping the soil covered is key. Anything to make it less inviting for them!

If you can get some wire netting, you could create protective arches over your dahlias until they grow larger and can cover the soil. It’s also good to note that dahlias are poisonous to cats, so let’s hope they're not nibbling on them either!
