Hey everyone, I just got charged $400 for the parts and labor for a garage door strut repair. I'm feeling a bit uneasy about the cost and was wondering if this is a fair price or if I might have been overcharged?

If the door was sagging, you probably needed a stiffener added, which costs about $150 for a standard 16 ft door. If the tech added two, that would double the material cost. Labor is usually quick, but any repair takes time and effort.
In the current market, $400 for parts and labor sounds about right. You might find a few bucks cheaper if you keep looking, but honestly, it seems fair for a repair that includes parts and installation.
Was it a larger spring system that was replaced? Those tend to be pricier. If you find out exactly which part was replaced, you might find some info online to help you gauge if the price is reasonable.

They offered to replace the springs too, which would cost around $500. The invoice just lists a strut for $350 and labor for $50.
