Hey everyone! We recently moved into a new home where the previous owners were smokers. While the house itself doesn't smell like smoke, I've noticed that my paper towels turn yellow when I wipe down the granite countertops. Could it be that the granite is holding onto smoke residues and slowly releasing it? I've also seen similar yellowing on the bathroom walls. Any insight on this would be appreciated!

Yeah, cigarette smoke can definitely seep into porous surfaces like granite, brick, and even cinder block. It's not like it's continuously seeping out, but it can leave those yellow residues. I’d suggest using a degreaser to cut through the nicotine on the countertops. That's what worked for me!

Yikes, sounds gross! I think a cleaner and sealer combo might do the trick. Or maybe I can convince my partner to get us new countertops? I’m so over these!
