A Robin Made a Nest in My Toolbox – What Should I Do?

So, I discovered a robin's nest in my toolbox! I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry about it. The nest is active, and the robin was sitting nearby when I found it this morning. I suspect this might be my fault because I've recently added a bird feeder with a cage that dispenses fat balls and peanut butter in my garden. There's a 20-foot hedge filled with birds at this time of year, and I guess the easy food and shelter made my toolbox appealing to the robin, even though the hedge is only a few meters away.

My toolbox has become a temporary home for this bird, complete with a plastic roof to shield it from the weather, but it's still an open area without a door. I know it's illegal to disturb a nest, but is it okay to move it or to hire someone to do it? I frequently use this area, especially with nicer weather coming, so I'd like to know my options. I'm feeling a mix of emotions about this whole situation!

You might want to keep the nest, too! Robins often nest in human-made structures when they feel safe, and it’s pretty common for them to pick odd spots. Maybe set up a webcam to capture the whole experience! Plus, they grow up fast, so you'll have access to your toolbox again soon. Enjoy the little chirpers!

I just saw a robin nesting in my composter! It’s inconvenient but definitely exciting! Can’t wait to see the chicks!

That’s quite the surprise! Robins are known for nesting in unexpected places like sheds or even toolboxes. They prefer safe spots with easy access to food, so it makes sense with the feeder you set up. If I were you, I’d leave them be; they typically fledge by late May, and you can find a way to work around it until then! It might be annoying now, but it’ll be a cool story later!

Yeah, I think it’s the same robin I see a lot, too! I've got plenty of bird species around my hedge, so it makes sense they'll nest anywhere they've got safety and food!

Hey, I’d recommend just leaving the nest where it is! Watching the little ones grow can be a rewarding experience. Plus, it’s important to note that disturbing a nest is illegal, so it’s best to let nature take its course. Maybe consider putting a door on your toolbox after they're fledged!

Haha, no tools for you this year, huh? Just enjoy the show!
