Best Ways to Protect 4×4’s of My Shed from Weed Whacker Damage?

I have a shed that sits on a base of crushed gravel, bordered by wood 4x4's. I'm looking for effective ways to shield these 4x4's from damage caused by a weed whacker. I want to avoid options like laying down pavers or creating a mulch border that would require maintenance. One idea I had was to use face brick or tile glued to the wood, but I'm concerned about how long anything I attach might last. What are your suggestions?

If you're open to a bit of work, small cheap pavers can be laid on their long edge all around the base. You could use PL premium to adhere them to the wood, or just place them next to the 4x4's if you're worried about soil level. They might need some mortar between them to prevent grass from growing through, but it's a solid option for keeping the area tidy.

Thanks for the suggestion! I worry about grass growing between the pavers though. I could try mortaring them, but I’m concerned about that lasting if I bump the mower into it.

You might want to consider attaching a strip of metal flashing or some PVC trim to the front of the 4x4's. This way, the trim absorbs the hits instead of the wood. Lawn edging or rubber curb strips right in front could also work nicely. Just make sure they're installed firmly so that weeds can't sneak through!
