I have some wood paneling in my bathroom that I'd like to paint over, but I've been advised that it might not be suitable based on the type of wood. I see so many people painting wood paneling, so I'm confused. Can someone shed some light on whether there are specific types of wood paneling that shouldn't be painted? Here are two photos of the paneling: [Photo 1](https://ibb.co/CKmY13Z8) and [Photo 2](https://ibb.co/Kjq8NqDx).

That looks more like wainscoting than traditional paneling, and it seems to be solid wood. There’s no reason why you can’t paint it. Just make sure to prep it properly!
Generally, wood that isn’t great for painting has a more pronounced grain. For your paneling, if the grain isn’t deep, you should be fine. Just remember to sand lightly before painting! And if it’s glossy, a special primer might be necessary to avoid peeling later on.
You can definitely paint that paneling if you want! Just give it a light sanding first and use a good primer to lock in those knots, so they don’t bleed through. Then, you should be good to go!
