How to Frame a Wall with Exposed Ceiling Joists

I'm planning to frame an interior wall in my garage against an existing cinderblock wall, but I want to keep the ceiling rafters exposed. I'm a bit confused about the best way to attach the top of the wall to the ceiling joists since I assume I'd need to add blocking for nailing. Is there a way to mount the wall without using blocking? If blocking is necessary, how can I make the drywall look good while keeping the joists visible?

It's not common to anchor non-load-bearing walls to the ceiling. A simpler approach would be to secure the wall directly to the cinderblock with horizontal blocking and concrete anchors. This can save you some trouble with the ceiling!

That's an interesting take. I want to add 1" of XPS foam between the concrete and my studs, but it sounds doable if I attach the blocking to the inside of the first stud.
