Why Do I Feel So Behind with My Gardening Plans?

Hey everyone, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed with my gardening plans this year. My last frost date is just four weeks away, and despite my best efforts to get everything sorted by March, things have really spiraled out of control. My garden beds aren't built yet because we discovered that the tree we were going to cut down has multiple trunks running through utility lines. Plus, my pawpaw seedlings that I kept in the garage might not have made it through the winter. On top of that, my kids have switched my plans from strawberries to raspberries for the garden beds! I checked out Michigan Gardener's seed site and was shocked at how long shipping takes for such small orders. I tried germinating some seeds in paper towels and using milk jug greenhouses, but I think those are probably dead too. I aimed to plant around 1000 sqft with cover crops but can only manage about 300 sqft before my wheelbarrow is full. Now I'm even considering fruiting bushes, and it feels like everything's just piling up! Any thoughts or advice?

Isn’t this just how gardening goes? We always seem to be in a state of being behind! There are always more projects, weeding to do, and plants to start. And it all happens when you have holiday plans or nice weather that tempt you away. The key is to put in a little effort each week instead of stressing over finishing everything at once. Enjoy the journey—gardening is a never-ending cycle!

Every spring brings new projects. I’ve learned that it helps to tackle tasks at the right time. This year I’m focusing on planting cool-weather crops and fertilizing my berries. The tricky part is prioritizing what needs to be done now versus what can wait, like building new raised beds.

You might want to chat with your neighbors! They might have gone a bit crazy with seeding and could have extra starter plants. I just put out my 4 tomatoes and 4 pepper plants, but now I have 11 extra tomatoes and 12 peppers because I overseeded. If you have neighbors, it’s totally worth seeing what they might be willing to share!

I'm in the same boat! I ended up with 50 black cherry tomatoes because I was worried about my 10-year-old seeds. Just decided to throw the whole bag in and see what happens!

Great idea! I’ve got a couple of proper neighbors, but maybe the diagonal ones have some extras too.
