I've just started working with veneer and accidentally ordered raw 1/45 veneer. I intended to use it to adhere to a box made from 3mm plywood, considering that a thicker veneer might help with corner issues. I wasn't aware of the option of paper backed veneer until now. Should I stick with the raw veneer, or would paper backed veneer be a better choice? Is there a way to glue my own paper to the raw veneer to make it easier to work with? Any advice would be appreciated!

You can totally use your raw veneer! Just make sure you're prepared to work with it; hammering it in with hide glue or using a press with PVA will do the trick. Just keep in mind that the raw veneer might not be perfectly flat, so you might have to soak it with a veneer softener and press it between two flat plates to flatten it out before gluing.

Definitely keep in mind that if the veneer is particularly curly, you might need a vacuum press to keep it flat while the glue sets.
