I'm planning to add shiplap to my laundry room and would love to hear where everyone typically orders their boards from. Is it better to go through specialty websites like Shiplap Direct or WoodPlank, or should I just pick them up at Home Depot or Lowes? Also, as a side note, if I decide to install the boards vertically, would it be smart to use plywood behind it instead of drywall for better support?

I got my boards from Lowe's, and if I was going vertical, I would recommend using horizontal furring strips to give you something solid to nail into. It definitely helps with stability!
I went the budget route and collected clean pallets from a local commercial park. After breaking them down, sanding, and whitewashing, I managed to do two walls for under $50! You can save a lot that way if you're willing to put in some extra effort. Plus, it's a unique look!
For vertical installs, you'll definitely want horizontal strips of wood or plywood behind your shiplap. Tongue and groove boards are a great option—they're trickier to work with, but they'll lock together nicely and you can use hidden fasteners. If you go with regular shiplap, just remember to face nail them and you might have to deal with visible nail holes unless you choose to fill and paint them.
