I'm looking to swap out the backing pad on my M12 6" random orbital sander for a 3M Xtract pad to improve dust extraction and get better battery life. Can anyone confirm the thread size for the M12 backing pad before I go ahead and purchase both the sander and pad? I noticed that the thread size on the 3M pad is 5/16-24 EXT, so I want to ensure compatibility.

Yep, I've got the M12 and I can confirm the thread is 5/16-24, specifically for the 2585-20 model. You should be all set with that 3M pad!
