Should I Fix High Water Pressure Myself or Hire a Plumber?

I just bought a new home, and during the inspection, I was told that the water pressure is too high at 100 psi, while it should be between 40-80 psi. I'm wondering if this is something I can handle myself as a DIY project, or if I should play it safe and hire a plumber. I know a plumber who charges $50 just to come check it out (not necessarily adjust it). What do you guys think? Should I try adjusting it myself or leave it to the professionals?

If it's your new home, consider hiring a plumber to take care of the water pressure along with inspecting your sewer line and water heater. Some plumbers offer service plans that could save you money in the long run!

I actually think having high water pressure (like 100 psi) can be awesome! I've got it in my house, and it makes for an incredible shower. Just make sure your fixtures are up to the task; most residential plumbing can handle it without a problem!

Honestly, it's usually best to have a plumber handle it, especially if you're not experienced. They can also check the pressure relief valve and ensure everything's in good shape.

You might want to check out YouTube for some tutorials on how to adjust the water pressure. If you feel confident, it could be worth a shot. Just remember, sometimes those pressure reducing valves can get rusty and might need replacing instead of just adjusting!

If you're going the DIY route, just be sure to avoid weekends or evenings. If you run into trouble and need a plumber, it'll be harder and more expensive to get one at those times!
