I'm trying to renovate my 171 square-foot kitchen and I'm considering using Home Depot for flooring installation. They list 2 1/4 red oak natural at $4.44 per square foot on their website, and they offer a 20% discount on materials if you go with their installation service. However, I noticed that Home Depot charges for installation quotes, unlike competitors who offer them for free. Has anyone used this service and how does the overall cost stack up against other flooring options? Is it worth paying $60 for a quote from them?

I recommend checking out local flooring stores instead of going for Home Depot. They often have better selections, and if your project is large enough, many will give you a free quote. The downside with Home Depot is that they tend to subcontract the installation, which can lead to inconsistent quality since the contractors often cut corners to save costs.
In my experience, the prices are roughly comparable across the board. I've seen it in the US, too, where they charge around $50 to measure your space. Personally, I wouldn’t opt for Home Depot—my installation experience there was less than stellar.

I totally agree! After they messed up some door installations at my place, I wouldn’t trust them for flooring either.
