Hey everyone! I'm reaching out for some advice as I take my first stab at growing seeds. I've followed the instructions on the seed packets for depth and everything, and I'm trying to grow peppers, spinach, lettuce, flowers, and various herbs. I planted the seeds in propagating trays about 2 weeks ago, but so far, only one flower has popped up. I initially kept them in a plastic greenhouse outside during a warm spell, but then moved them inside by a window when the temperature fell again. I'm wondering if I've done something wrong or if I just need to be more patient. Should I have seen more activity by now? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hey! Just a thought, but what's the compost you’re using? I tried some miracle grow stuff once, and it really didn't perform well for seedlings. Generally, they don't need light to germinate, just warmth. And it's still early days—two weeks isn’t long at all! You could even try germinating your seeds in damp paper towels if you're curious. Keep experimenting!
Hey there! It sounds like you're doing a lot right, but peppers can really be picky about warmth—ideal conditions can be a bit warmer than just a windowsill. Maybe try moving them to a warmer spot in your kitchen? As for the rest of your plants, if the soil is consistently moist, it could just be a matter of patience. The flower sprouting recently is a good sign! Also, ensure your seeds are fresh, just to be on the safe side. Good luck!
Thanks for the tips! I’ve got a warm spot in mind, and I'm glad to hear the flower is a good sign. Fingers crossed for the others!
It might help to know that most seeds actually don’t need to be buried very deep at all. Just sprinkle them on the soil surface, lightly press them in, and maybe cover them with a very thin layer of compost or vermiculite. Too deep and they can struggle to break through, which could be what’s happening here! Bottom watering can also help. Good luck!

I’m using that same miracle grow all-purpose compost! I wish I had known it could be a problem. I’ll definitely try the paper towel method with some extra seeds too!
