My Sister’s Basil and Oregano Are Dying – What Should We Do?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice! My sister recently got a basil and an oregano plant, but they seem to be slowly dying, even though we're watering them regularly. We've been giving them water every other day and keeping them in partial sunlight. However, we noticed that while the stems on the oregano are firm, the leaves closer to the roots are looking really flaccid. Any ideas on what we might be doing wrong?

It sounds like you might need to check a few things. First, how much light are they actually getting? Oregano loves bright light, so make sure it’s getting enough. Also, is the pot well-drained? If there aren't any holes, that can cause root rot. The condition of the leaves could suggest they're not getting enough nutrients or maybe they have pests. If you can, post a pic so we can see what’s going on!

Yeah, and pay attention to the watering too! Overwatering can lead to flaccid leaves, even if you think you’re on a schedule. Just check the top inch of soil—if it’s dry, they need a drink!

Including a picture would definitely help others see what might be wrong. Also, any yellowing or spots on the leaves could hint at pests or disease, so check for that. The more info you provide, the better the help!

You might want to adjust your watering schedule based on the pot and the plant’s needs. Try feeling the soil first. Sometimes pictures and more details (like temperature) really help, too! That way we can offer better advice.
