Hey everyone! I'm brand new to woodworking and just signed up for a class at my local Woodcraft. I don't own any tools yet, and I want to start off focusing on basic hand tools. Can you recommend a good starter pack of tools and brands? Also, I'd love any general advice for someone with no experience at all. I've done some research through books and YouTube, but I'm looking for personal insights. Thanks!

For a minimal starter pack, consider getting a ryoba saw, a Stanley No. 4 hand plane, a basic set of chisels, diamond plates for sharpening, and a cordless drill with bits. With these, you can kick off by making simple projects like a marking gauge or a mallet. That's how I started, and it worked great for me!
I recommend investing in a small, high-quality sliding T-square or combo square; it's something you'll use for years. Don't skimp on clamps either; having a variety of them is better than fewer but expensive ones when you're working on small projects.
