Hey everyone, I'm looking to create some mortise openings with the dimensions of 1.5 inches long, 1/8 inch wide, and 2 inches deep. I thought about using a CNC router bit, but the longest bit available is only about 1 inch deep. Does anyone have a technique or tool recommendation that can make this process smoother? I'd like to automate it a bit since I need to make several of them, instead of just drilling multiple holes. Appreciate any help!

What about using a guide bushing with a template? You could drill as deep as your bit allows and then finish the depth with a chisel or a multi-tool. Alternatively, if you can’t take apart your work, you might try cutting strips to the required depth and using glue. Just a couple ideas off the top of my head.
You might want to check out Bits&Bits; they offer some long bits, but unfortunately, the 1/8 inch ones only go up to 1 inch deep. If you need more depth, you could use a 1/4 inch bit that goes 2 inches deep. Otherwise, you might be looking at drilling lots of holes and finishing up with a 1/8 inch chisel to achieve that clean edge.
That's what I ran into! I need something longer than 1 inch too.
Have you considered a biscuit cutter? It's designed for that kind of work, but keep in mind they usually max out at about 1 inch in depth. The slot might also get wider than you'd want.
Yeah, I've used biscuit cutters before, and they can be a bit limited in depth.
Thanks for the ideas, but I can't disassemble the piece—I need to insert a metal piece into the slot.
