I'm planning to have 1 (maybe 2) trees cut down in my backyard. The tree surgeon mentioned that there might be some mess and dust afterwards. I'm curious if anyone has any advice on the best time of year to schedule this or any tricks to prevent my garden and my neighbors from getting wrecked! Thanks in advance!

Just make sure to clarify if it's dust or sawdust that they're talking about—big difference! I felled a tree before and ended up with a bunch of tiny twigs and sawdust on the lawn, but it didn't cause issues for my neighbors at all. I'd recommend scheduling it for now so you can clean up the debris while everything's dry, which will help plants and grass recover faster.
When I had a tree removed, I used smaller pieces of the wood as stakes and also made insect shelters with them. The sawdust that fell into my planters got washed into the compost and didn't harm anything. My dog even had a blast playing with the chunks! It's not as bad as it sounds, honestly.
