Hey everyone! I'm completely new to DIY projects, but I'm really excited to make something special for my girlfriend's upcoming birthday. She's a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, and I thought it would be amazing to create an Ocarina that plays sounds directly from the game. My idea is to make the holes in the Ocarina work as buttons that trigger the gameplay sounds to make it as authentic as possible. I have a few questions: 1) How hard is this going to be for someone with zero experience? 2) What skills do I need to learn to pull this off? 3) Any resources you can recommend to help me out? This project isn't too tough! Using a Raspberry Pi Pico with a few buttons and a speaker is a solid approach. Just keep in mind, it's 'easy' if you're comfortable working with Raspberry Pi and electronics in general. You’ll likely need to do some coding and maybe a bit of soldering, plus you'll want to figure out how to power everything inside the Ocarina. It might take a month or so if you're brand new to this. Alternatively, why not consider buying a real Ocarina and learning to play it? It could be a really meaningful gift as well!
You can definitely make this work with a soundboard and some buttons, plus a small amplifier and speaker. It's quite straightforward when you break it down—just focus on making it look good once the tech part is set up.
