I recently planted lupine in my circle garden to hide the well, thinking it would deter rabbits. However, I've noticed that the Eastern Cottontail rabbits in my area are munching on both my homegrown lupine seedlings and some store-bought ones, which I thought were toxic to them. It's confusing because I've read they should stay away from these plants! I have some foxgloves nearby that the rabbits ignore, but I can't plant the lupine too close to them due to space restrictions. Can anyone suggest ways to protect my lupine and give them a fighting chance to bloom?

One trick I use is to cover my seedlings with mesh wastepaper baskets from the dollar store—super cheap and effective! Just keep them in place with landscape staples. You can reuse them every year too!
I’m definitely going to try that! I never thought to use a plant cage outside.
