I recently got a quote for landscaping services where the landscaper charged me $779. This included trimming a few branches from my tall evergreen, adding soil and grass seed to a 400 sq ft area, and cleaning up leaves and branches in my yard. Based on this, I'm wondering if this price is considered expensive or fair?

I charge about $1000 for a full day of work, so when you consider everything involved, $779 isn't outrageous if the job was done well. However, it really depends on the exact scope of work. If they were just in and out quickly with minimal effort, that might sting a bit.
