I'm in the market for an SDS+ drill primarily for some garden demolition, masonry tasks, and I also plan to drill through plate steel into concrete. I understand that different bits will be needed for various materials. I'm considering the 273 model, but I'm wondering if I'll regret not opting for one of the flexvolt options. Any thoughts?

I really like my DCH133. It's perfect for most of my needs, especially for brick work. You could rent a larger corded drill from Home Depot if you're tackling bigger demo jobs; that could be the way to go!
While the 273 is solid, I personally use the 293 and it's even better for heavy-duty jobs. You can drill larger than recommended, but it might be slower. If you're doing major commercial work, the flexvolt models are great, but for general demo, stick with something more basic.
For similar projects, I found that an SDS+ from Harbor Freight worked perfectly for me. I snagged a corded version on sale for under $50. Honestly, I couldn't justify the cost of a DeWalt given how often I would use it. The Harbor Freight model has tackled everything I've thrown at it without a hitch!
Drilling through plate steel into concrete is more than just switching bits; you'd need a different drill altogether. Rotary hammers are specifically designed for concrete and masonry, and the bits reflect that. If you're not using it heavily, the 20v models should do just fine for your needs.
