What to Do About Sour Smelling Soil?

Asked By GardenGnome42 On

I recently bought three bags of organic raised bed soil, but one of them has a distinct sour smell. I've already added it to my raised bed, but I haven't planted anything yet. I gave it a good watering and plan to let it sit for a day to see if the smell clears up. Does anyone have any advice on whether it's safe to use this soil or if I should remove it and toss it in my compost pile?

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The sour smell might be a bit off-putting, but once it gets some fresh air and sunshine, it should dissipate. I've left similar soil in my garden before, and it turned out fine. Just give it some time!

That's what I'm hoping!
