Is Planting Ivy on My Upstate NY Property a Bad Idea?

I've heard that planting ivy outside can cause issues, and I get the reasons behind it. However, I live in Upstate New York on a large piece of land and I'm really eager to plant some ivy. Given my situation, are there any specific reasons why I shouldn't go ahead with this plan?

The main concerns with ivy still apply, even if you have a big yard. I volunteer at a city park, and trust me, we end up weeding ivy a lot! It can crowd out other plants by blocking sunlight, and before you know it, you'll have ivy everywhere, making it tough to grow your favorite plants.

I get that, but I have a big area with pine needles and not much else growing. I've tried other ground covers, but ivy might be my best bet for those bare spots. What do you think?
