I'm trying to figure out the best method to install flooring over my gravel garage floor. It's attached to my main garage, and I want to convert it into a climate-controlled workspace that's clean and usable. I've got plans to insulate the walls and put up some panels. For the floor, I was thinking about leveling the gravel, adding a moisture barrier, laying down treated plywood, and then covering it with heavy floor mats or horse stall mats. Is this a budget-friendly and effective approach? I'm not experienced with concrete work and I'm on a tight budget, so I can't hire someone for this.

I recommend taking the time to learn how to lay concrete. It's hard work, but not too difficult if you use pre-mixed concrete bags. You just need to set up some forms, pour the mix in, and then smooth it out. Plus, you can do it in sections to make it manageable.
Why not just lay horse stall mats directly on the gravel? They’re moisture-resistant, flexible enough for uneven surfaces, and super easy to clean. It could save you some hassle!

Thanks for the suggestion! Since I’ll be using this space for food-grade items and need it climate-controlled, do you think the horse stall mats alone would be sufficient?
