I'm currently working on a landscaping project for my home and I've tried various weed-blocking materials from Home Depot, tarps, and more. Can anyone suggest a better fabric for preventing weeds from coming through? What can I do to effectively minimize weeds? Thanks!

Here's the thing: there’s no foolproof or permanent solution for weeds that’s responsible. Although some people swear by landscape fabric, it often just causes more issues in garden beds. Weeds come from above with air and water, so the best approach is to get rid of them by hand first, roots and all, then top it off with a thick layer of organic mulch. A hula hoe can really help keep seedlings in check later!
Honestly, there’s no true ‘weed block’ out there. Landscape fabric is just meant to keep decorative rocks from sinking into the dirt. If weeds get enough sunlight and moisture, they’ll grow regardless. Instead, make sure your mulch layer is thick enough to block light. And hey, using chemicals could be an option if you’re okay with that!
You might want to consider using cardboard along with mulch. It's a great way to tackle weeds, and trust me, the next person who has to deal with your garden will appreciate it too! Just make sure to keep any tape off and avoid those glossy boxes, since they don't break down well. Water it down once you lay it, especially if it's windy!
