Ceiling Fan Brace Issues: How to Handle 14″ Joist Spacing?

Hey everyone! I just bought a Westinghouse adjustable brace for my ceiling fan but realized that my joists are only 14" apart. Most braces I've seen are designed for 16" to 24". I'm a bit stuck here—does anyone have suggestions on what to do?

One option is to slightly relocate your fan's mounting spot. Try to find a joist or rafter tie that's a few inches over and use a fan box that attaches directly to it. This way, you'll have a sturdier mount for your fan!
