I ordered a mower from Home Depot, but it showed up with the older 12.0HO batteries instead of the newer Forge batteries that I was expecting. I'm wondering if I should go into the store to confirm that there's a mower with the Forge batteries available, and then return this one. I did the BMSM hack, so I ended up paying $750 before tax. Am I better off returning it or doing a swap?

Take a look at the product description online if you haven't already. It usually shows what comes in the kit, including pictures. They should specify if it’s the Forge model or if they accidentally added the HO ones. You shouldn't be sent a different version than what was advertised.
Was it delivered in a plain brown box or the brand's signature red box with your name on a yellow sticker? That might help clarify whether it was a mix-up. If things don't look right, I would recommend returning it.
If you can, I'd say head back to the store. They might have only the 12.0HO available, and I had a similar issue. But since you did the hack, you might still be getting a good deal. Either way, consider asking someone in the garden section if they will accommodate a battery swap without needing to lug the mower back.
I actually went into the store to check and make sure I got the Forge batteries. I didn't want to take any chances with them sending the wrong model again, especially since battery types can really affect performance.
