I've got a question that might sound silly, but how do plants actually get pests? I get that if they're already infested when you buy them from a nursery or store, that's a given. But what about plants that have been in someone's house for a while? Do outside bugs find their way inside, and if so, how do they even know there's a plant in there? Is it just because people move plants outside during the summer? Also, if you've dealt with pests before, how did those infestations begin? By the way, I've been super lucky with pests in my plant-keeping journey, but recently I spotted some white spots that looked a lot like mealybugs on one of my long-time plants. I freaked out, removed the affected leaf, and so far, I haven't seen any more signs. I avoid taking my plants outside just to keep pests away!

Bugs don’t exactly journey into your home just for your plants, but they can sense them. Plants release different scents based on their sugar levels, which can attract both pests and their predators. If a plant is struggling, it might emit scents that make it more appealing to pests. Definitely interesting how that works!
