I'm looking to temporarily attach a 2x4 to my concrete basement floor to mark where a wall will be built later on. I was thinking about using construction adhesive, but I'm concerned about whether it will come off easily without damaging the floor when I'm done. What are my options for a secure yet removable attachment?

Have you considered using double-sided foam tape? If your floor is clean and smooth, it sticks well and is easy to pull up later. Just make sure to choose something like 3M VHB if you need extra hold! It’s a decent balance between strong and removable. Just a heads up, some construction adhesive might also work, but it can leave a bit of a mark afterward.
Honestly, if you're using it as a marker, chalk might be a quick solution, but I get that you want to protect the flooring too. If you need a mark that stands out and doesn’t mess up the floor, using a few dots of construction adhesive could be fine, just be mindful it might leave some residue.
