Hey everyone! I'm about to buy a strawberry plant today, and I'm feeling a bit lost on how to care for it. I live in Texas, specifically in zone 8B. I want to make sure I don't mess this up! I'm not aiming for the biggest strawberries, but I'd like them to be decent-sized—not those tiny ones. I've done some research, but I keep getting mixed answers on a few things, like whether I should plant them in the ground or in a pot? What should I do with the runners? How do I prepare the soil? And how often should I be watering them? It's really stressing me out. Any tips would be super helpful!

Make sure you know what type of strawberry you're getting! Everbearing strawberries will produce smaller fruits throughout the season, while Junebearing ones give you larger fruit but all at once. If you're planting in the ground, make sure to plant it at the same level as it is in the pot. I don't amend my soil since mine is decent, and I just water them when my lawn gets watered daily in summer. As for the runners, those are baby plants. You can let them grow where they are or transplant them. Just wait until they've formed roots before snipping them off! Just a heads up, you might not get fruit in the first year.
